Metta Theatre is recruiting a CSM on the Book for their UK tour of Metta’s Little Mermaid - The Circus Sensation.

The Production

Spectacular circus and spellbinding songs combine in this extraordinary new adaptation from the award-winning Metta Theatre. A reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, with awe-inspiring acrobatics and hauntingly beautiful original folk songs.

Written by Poppy Burton-Morgan and Designed by William Reynolds - the team that brought you the smash hit Jungle Book - with music by Matt Devereaux and starring seven of the world’s leading circus artists, this breathtakingly beautiful production will enchant everyone from 8 to 108. A triumphant tale of love overcoming all.

Contract period - Mon 19 February – Sun 6 May 2018 (with some possible prep/pre-rehearsal days)

Rehearsals 19 Feb - 18 Mar 18 (5 wks), Mon-Sat in London

Tech & previews w/c 20 March, Theatre by the Lake Keswick

Weekly touring until 5 May 18

Reporting to: Producers

Fee: Paid position with fee commensurate with experience.

Touring allowance: £250pw OR travel allowance only (based on train fares) when commutable from London.

Job Description

The CSM on the Book will be required to attend all rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances as well as all get ins and get outs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Director throughout the rehearsal process.

  • All company management & pastoral care for the duration of the project.

  • Line-managing the ASM/Wardrobe.

  • Compiling the prompt copy and recording blocking etc.

  • Calling cues for all performances (LX, sound, flying etc).

  • Distributing daily rehearsal notes to the creative and production team.

  • Working closely with the production manager during pre-production and on tour.

  • Sourcing, buying, borrowing and making of props as required and within budget (alongside the ASM).

  • Adhering to the production schedule provided at all times.

Person Specification:

  • Professional CSM experience of touring theatre productions.

  • Professional experience of calling shows.

  • Professional experience of touring aerial/circus productions (desirable).

  • Professional training in stage management and proven track record within the industry.

  • Good knowledge of technical theatre.

  • Experience in running local crews.

  • Excellent team player and communication skills.

  • Proactive & excellent attention to detail.

  • First aid at work certificate (desirable).

  • UK driving licence & own car (desirable).

  • Scene changes, costume resets as needed during performances.

  • Costume maintenance & laundry on tour, including fixes.

  • Adhering to the production schedule provided at all times.

  • Any other duties as required by the Director, CSM and Producer.

Person Specification:

  • Professional ASM experience.

  • Professional experience of touring aerial/circus productions (desirable).

  • Professional training in stage management and proven track record within the industry.

  • Knowledge and professional experience in costume maintenance.

  • Excellent team player and communication skills.
