“ I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” Greta Thunberg 2019
HouseFire will be a new family musical - part gig-theatre, part song cycle - unpacking some of the complexities around the climate crisis through a series of songs sung by a quartet of endangered animals. Shelley the sea turtle sings of the seas, Ginger the orangutan on keys has her own tale to tell about how deforestation has destroyed her family. Alan the elephant is keeping time on the drums. Meanwhile Leo, the lead guitarist leopard is ready to rip you to shreds with their adolescent rage. Four teenagers vent their spleen at a seemingly apathetic world - but their newly formed band ‘HouseFire’ is under threat from their corporate capitalist record company boss who wants them to pander to the capitalist system they are so keen to de-stabilize. At turns heartfelt, tongue in cheek and politically provocative this wild and anarchic new show will be a call to arms for young audiences and a well needed wake up call to adult ones.
