Shahrazad needs to survive for just one more night. Can her stories save her? An Arabian Nights for a modern age, responding to events of the Arab Revolutions in this potent and compelling collection of short plays by writers from around the world. Riding the waves of change currently breaking across the Middle-East, this extraordinary new production explodes with vivid story-telling, live music and puppetry.
This production will run for four weeks at a leading off-west end London venue in Autumn 2012, followed by two weeks of regional touring to the North of England and Midlands – dates and venues to be announced. Supported by English Touring Theatre.
Writers currently attached include Hassan Abdulrazzak (young Iraqi playwright whose plays include Baghdad Wedding for the Soho and The Prophet for the Gate). Ghalia Kabbani (Syrian journalist and writer whose novels include The Mirror of Summer and Secrets and Lies, Raja Shehadeh (Orwell Prize-winning Palestinian writer based in Ramallah, West Bank, author of Palestinian Walks and A Rift in Time) and a young Iranian playwright who cannot be named for political reasons. Music by young Lebanese Composer Bushra El Turk. Costumes by Iraqi Designer Rajha Shakiry.
